The Revenant gets the gold at this year’s awards.
The 73rd Annual Golden Globes – which celebrates the best in film and televison of the previous year – took place in at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and saw Ricky Gervais return as host for the fourth time.
The event saw The Revenant win big gaining the ceremony’s biggest awards including Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Best Actor by a Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role – Drama, marking Leonardo DiCaprio’s third Golden Globe win in that category.
The Martian was also a success winning the Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical whilst Matt Damon picked up the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role – Comedy. Other winners included Brie Larson for Room for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role – Drama, Kate Winslet for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Steve Jobs - which also saw Aaron Sorkin gain the award for Best Screenplay for a Motion Picture.
One of the night’s most celebrated moments was Sylvester Stallone winning the award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Rocky Balboa in Creed. The event marked the actor’s first nomination since 1977 for which he was nominated for his performance in the same for as well as Best Screenplay for a Motion Picture. Upon winning the award, the actor received a standing ovation before stating: “Most of all, I want to thank my imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had.”
